Karakit - This is  a shot of a "kumpit" from the Philippines. This is the type of vessel used for transporting seaweeds. It is on its way to Labuan Free Port for a cargo of trade goods. In a few days it will return fully loaded like the kumpit shown in another picture of this gallery. It is the type of trading vessel common to the region and Philippine boats check in at Karakit on entering and leaving Malaysia. Banggi has a long history as an entrepôt in international trade and once housed a major outpost of the British East India Company. (icn photo)
